Stock Return (CAGR) Calculator
Enter starting and ending values across a holding period to see total return, compound annual growth rate, and how much of it came from dividends.
Price return vs. total return
How much of your return came from price appreciation alone versus price plus dividends.
Methodology & how to use this
How the math works
Total return is (end + dividends − start) / start. CAGR is the geometric annual growth rate: (end / start)^(1 / years) − 1. The total-return CAGR uses (end + dividends) / start as if all dividends were reinvested at zero cost at the end of the period.
What's simplified
Real dividend reinvestment happens dividend-by-dividend and would produce a slightly different total-return CAGR depending on prices at each payment. Treat this as a clean top-down number, not a portfolio-accurate one.
