Methodology & how to use this
Tiered match formulas
Most employer matches are tiered — a common shape is "100% up to 3%, then 50% on the next 2%," which caps at 4% of salary in employer dollars. Your plan documents will say exactly how it's structured.
What we assume
Contributions are made monthly, returns compound monthly, and salary/match stay constant. We don't model raises, IRS annual contribution limits (check irs.gov for the current year's limit), or Roth vs traditional tax treatment.
