Methodology & how to use this
How the max price is found
We compute your maximum monthly housing payment as income × DTI − other debts. Then we solve for the home price whose full PITI payment fits inside that number — using the standard amortization formula plus per-month property tax and insurance based on price.
Why the number is a ceiling, not a target
Lenders will let you go to the DTI limit; most personal-finance guidance says don't. HOA dues, PMI (under 20% down), maintenance, and utilities are all real housing costs this ratio ignores. A 28% front-end (housing only) target leaves you far more breathing room than 36% total.
