How a ladder works
Split your deposit evenly across rungs with staggered maturities. As each rung matures, you roll it into a fresh long-term CD at the current rate. That keeps a chunk of your cash liquid every few months while capturing longer-term yields on the rest.
The math
Each rung's maturity value is principal × (1 + APY)^years. Blended APY is the principal-weighted average across rungs. This assumes CDs are held to maturity — early withdrawal penalties are not modeled.
