Founder and editor

About

Geraldine Weiss was one of the first women to run a major investment advisory. She launched the Investment Quality Trends newsletter in 1966 and initially signed it "G. Weiss" because clients in that era would not take investment advice from a woman.

Her method — pioneered decades before dividend investing became fashionable — used a stock's dividend yield relative to its own historical range as a valuation signal on high-quality blue-chip companies.

For her work she was nicknamed "the Grande Dame of Dividends" and became a template for a generation of income-focused investors.

Famous principles
  • Focus on high-quality companies with long records of paying and raising dividends.
  • A stock's yield history — not the broad market's — tells you when it is cheap or expensive.
  • Dividends are honest. It's much harder to fake a cash payment than an earnings number.
Famous positions & calls

From the record

Historical positions — for education, not a current portfolio.

  • Blue-chip dividend payers — bought when their yields hit historically high bands and sold when yields compressed back toward historic norms.
  • Classic consumer and industrial blue chips of her era — high-quality names with long records of paying and raising dividends.
